Part of a loutrophoros-amphora decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe and was reassembled and restored.

On the vase’s neck two women are depicted holding characteristic wedding gifts such as ribbon and fabric. On the vessel’s body a wedding scene unfolds displaying the groom looking at his blushing bride. Since she has her head uncovered, this scene may be associated with the first time the couple faces each other, after the gesture of revealing. The groom extends his hand towards her possibly about to get hold of her wrist in the typical nuptial gesture signifying that she is now his legal wife. He will lead her to his paternal home, which will be their new house. Behind the bride a seated woman is depicted and behind the groom a winged female figure flies towards the two women while a single flower blooms in front of her. The winged figure may symbolise the bride’s “flight” to her new life whereas the flower may constitute a romantic reference to the consummation of the wedding which will follow.
